Art does not adhere to a schedule but demands endless time, effort, and attention. What would happen, then, if art were given away? I made these thirty pieces of art intentionally to be given away while on a trip to Japan. Each piece began as an experiment - of color or composition - and then became a puzzle I needed to solve. I carried the art with me and gave them away to various people on my trip: our hosts, some fellow artists, a kintsugi master, and even a lady who gave up her seat for me on the train. A rebellious act of hospitality, the gifts often left their receivers stunned. In Japanese culture gifts must always be returned, but due to my short stay, many recipients of my art were not able to reciprocate. The art rather became an open-ended generative force of wild generosity.
